They've been in constant use since 2020. Never before did we put people who could still do the physical work of breathing on a ventilator. Tomorrow marks exactly one year ago that I was put on one for covid here in WA state even though I never once had trouble breathing (only low O2 saturation). I was on it for 5 full weeks. It is indeed a miracle that I'm still alive. I'm alive (praise God), but the ventilator permanently damaged my lungs. A year later and I still require supplemental oxygen.
