Two weeks ago, I met up with some former co-workers for a few beers. One of them was a former manager and co-owner of our company. He paid for the beer.
He brought me souvenirs of my work and told me they belong with me. They are tool instruments for ophthalmologists. I developed the production machining processes including writing the programs. They are blown up 1000 X, or more for displays at trade shows.
I had to machine a foot onto the end of a part and then cut angles on it. Insane. The bending was done post machine operation. The gold part was one of the most complex programs I had to create. You can’t see it but there is a rubber sleeve over the part that goes halfway down. There are barbs machined into the part that grip onto the sleeve so it doesn’t slide off during surgery. I had to hand grind the carbide tool to make those micro barbs. On both parts I had to drill a tiny hole all the way through, .022 that had to be concentric to within .001. Material type is titanium. And now I’m a freelance writer in a genocide. Tndoc any thoughts on these tools?
Two of my co-workers are musicians. Both are drummers. One of them didn’t know who Michael Shrieve is. Shocking. Selected beer--Formula 13 IPA.
In the interview below Michael shares his story on how he became the drummer for Santana.
Michael playing at Woodstock.
The dental instruments are amazing.........do you ever miss doing this kind of work?
Dang...whole comment disappeared...Mary Roach, "Fuzz", features "Poison Garden" pic, with skull and crossbones, made me think of you!! Now you mention the "peace doves"!!...So I had to go ahead and tell you, cause Roach's "Fuzz" also has a chapter on the Vatican bird trip.
Oh, please read it. You're already so connected.....Knew I was asking for trouble running away from my crabby self today. A trip to the local for wifi ended up costing me more than one hundred smackers, cause I left my key in the car...something I've been expecting to do for a month.
Well, it's over. Hope I don't become one of those "repeat customers" they told me about. Geez.
But , hey, Dr. Farrell is so worth it. Did you dig those interviews?
Those tools are unreal. I was thinking today how you must miss...as I do...the daily social face to face , eyeball to eyeball, soul to soul contact.
