On Saturday I ran a little garden tour. A subscriber came to it and brought me this bottle of wine. I’d run a garden tour every day for a bottle of this.
A few years ago a friend visited my garden. He wasn’t impressed.
“Mike, don’t you know Safeway has all the vegetables you’d ever need, and they sell flowers too.”
“Too far. I’d rather just walk out my backdoor and pick my food and flowers.”
A few nice comments posted on the garden site.
At the gate entrance there is a picture of an entrance. It was once the entrance to a High School then it became a Junior High school—Kirkland Jr. High. It caught on fire in 1973 and for some stupid reason they decided to tear it down, but they saved the entrance. How does a beautiful building like this catch on fire? Science lab project explodes? Smokin in the boys room?
At the time of this fire my wife and I were enrolled at Rose Hill Jr. High. I lived about equal distance from the two, but I lived on the east side of interstate 405 so didn’t go there but would have loved to have attended school in that beautiful building.
Building shown here in 1920. I think once they converted it into a school the engraved the year 1932 on it.
Sadly, this is the town they chose to launch their Covid 19 hoax, my hometown. In a strange way I feel there’s a connection between the school fire and the hoax.
A few years ago I was driving the 255 route and there is a zone on the street right in front of this archway entrance. I had no passengers onboard, so I stopped and looked at it and took a few pictures with the idea to one day blow it up and frame it. Done. Now I want to blow it up bigger, make a frame and mount it on our wall directly across from the front door. You’ll walk right underneath it to go to the kitchen.
Little surprises like this.
Showcase a few animals and spiders from the garden. Crab spider with a face on its ass. I took that picture last year in the garden. My new garden dog Dbanjo, and my crow Rex. I had Rex from 2007-2016.
First bird book on the left next to the sleeping face my mother-in-law gave it to me on her death bed. I was alone with her and she was asleep. I began looking at the book. She woke up.
“Mike, what is one thing of mine that you’d like?”
“This book.”
“Take it home with you.”
Dbanjo likes to get in on the tree trimming action.
Now he uses those branches as a back scratcher.
I recently inherited a bowling ball. I don’t bowl.
My mother met my stepfather in a bowling alley in San Pablo California—Lucky Lanes. My real father bowled there too and that’s as far as I’m going with this story.
They tore it down and put a casino in its place. Makes more money for the city and keeps people poor.
I had major grass failures this year. Suddenly I can’t grow grass but had them semi-patched up for the tour.
Concrete glued back together statue head doing fine. The vase I inherited from my mother-in-law. Happy to display it. Her cosmetic jewelry is also scattered in various places in the garden. She loved the garden.
“Mike, how do you know how to do this?”
“I don’t Ellen. I put a seed in the ground if it grows great. If it doesn’t, I try again.”
This is the section where I took out two trees. I let my wife deal with this section.
The Bar
In the late 90’s King County Metro ran an ad to boost male ridership. Didn’t work. “I date guys I find on the bus.” She never got on my bus.
At my garden tour I got asked out on a date by one of the women who came through. I accepted. We’re going out this upcoming Saturday. I discuss it in my garden talk.
Since there is a Wonka quote at the garden entrance might as well finish with another Wonka quote at the exit gate.
Garden Talk—a host of topics covered including the garden tour and Kamala Harris. Maybe give it a listen while you hand wash the dishes. Remember those days?
I handwash all my dishes and let most of them air-dry. I polish all my glass drink ware.
Your garden is so whimsical. I really do hope to be another of your guests there!
